About the Specialization:
Dentistry is a branch of medicine specializing in the
diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases of the mouth, jaws, teeth, and
surrounding tissues. The specialization in oral and dental medicine and surgery
aims to train dentists capable of treating patients effectively and equipping
them with the necessary skills to work in dental clinics. Training includes the
diagnosis and treatment of various oral and dental diseases, such as fillings,
bridges and dentures, orthodontics, extractions, and periodontal treatment, in
addition to performing oral and dental surgeries.
Dentistry is considered part of applied sciences, with the
curriculum comprising two tracks: theoretical and academic, and scientific and
applied. Most medical specialties require five to seven years of study, while a
Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree takes five years. During the first
years, students study basic scientific subjects and oral and medical sciences.
Practical training begins afterward, with the first year being pre-clinical
training within the university, while the fourth and fifth years focus on
practical educational training in the field of dentistry.
